Attractions

Cedarhurst Center for the Arts inhabits a 90-acre site where the arts are celebrated year-round!  Rolling meadows, woods and lake feature over 50 large scale sculptures by such noted artists as Fletcher  Benton, Chakaia Booker, Martha Enzmann, and Tova Beck-Friedman.  The Mitchell Museum offers three art galleries. Prized works by Mary Cassatt, William Glakens, Robert Henri,  Childe Hassam, and Maurice Prendergrast are part of the new Permanent Collection Gallery.  Website:  www.cedarhurst.org

Rend Lake's 19,000 acres provides wonderful opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, and other water sports.  The complex is also home to a 27-hole championship golf course.

GenKota Winery sits on a gentle hill overlooking its own vineyard.  Guests can sit on the wraparound deck and sip award wining wines manufactured on site.

Southern Illinois Art and Artisans Center is an Illinois State Museum site.  Located just 17 miles south of Mt. Vernon, this 15,000 square foot facility houses the Artisans Shop and the Southern Illinois Art Gallery.  The Artisans Shop ---- the largest in Illinois --- offers for sale the work of over 850 Illinois artisans.  The Center also hosts the "Annual Art and Wine Festival" the fourth weekend in September.

Golf Courses are plentiful in Southern Illinois.  In addition to the championship Rend Lake course, there are five other fine courses within a 17 mile radius of Sidwell Friends---two just minutes away.
